When I first came to US last year, everything was new and fresh to me. I was very nervous about my life at USC. Could I get along well with my new friends? Could I adapt quickly to American higher education? One of my American friends told me, “just be brave and take opportunities. You’ll be fine.” Throughout my first year in USC I kept thinking positively and tried new things to learn about myself and explore US. I value my experience here and want to share it with prospective graduate students….

Win or lose, football is always a highlight of my fall semester. There are many different opportunities for students to get involved in game day, whether it be tailgating, sitting in the student section, traveling to away games, or watching from the field. Here is a look at some of my highlights of the 2015 football season.
Season Opener: Arkansas State and Idaho
There is no better way to start off football season than with three consecutive home games, which is exactly how the 2015 season started at USC. For these games I was a member of Traveler Crew, the group that clears the field for our beloved mascot Traveler to run after every touchdown run. I’m not entirely sure how it’s possible but I’ll be flying back to London for the Christmas holidays in about 7 weeks. I feel like I arrived here yesterday but it’s actually been several months – move to a new country, start a new graduate program and apparently time goes by very quickly! Don’t get my wrong, I am absolutely looking forward to seeing my family and friends (in fact by the time I get home, I’ll even have a niece to join my two adorable nephews and I can’t wait to meet her) but I will definitely miss my new Trojan family while I’m gone!
As the USC-UCLA football game approached, Trojan pride was at an all-time high. While not eligible for a bowl game this year due to NCAA sanctions, USC played like champions against Oregon, beating them 38-35 in Eugene. Leading up to the USC-UCLA game, students showed off the cardinal and gold more than usual. On campus, there was the “Conquest” celebration, a night of good food, fireworks, and even a Ferris wheel in the McCarthy Quad.
With only a month left in my first semester as an MHA student at SPPD, I can definitely say that coming to USC was the right choice for me. The classes have been great and my classmates have become good friends. Having gone to UC San Diego for my undergrad, one of the things I have been most excited about has been Division I sports.
